February 24, 2024

The Sibug sibug festival is a cultural festival and founding anniversary in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines every February 24. It also coincides with the Festival of Lights, which is a competition of theme parks with specific themes.

• The festival features colorful street dancing with ethnic themes, such as rituals for harvest, wedding, and healinghttps://www.vigattintourism.com/tourism/articles/Sibug-Sibug-Festival-Most-Awaited-Festival-of-Zamboanga-Sibugay. The participants wear costumes and accessories that reflect the culture and history of the province.

The festival also showcases the province’s major produce, which is the oyster or talaba. Zamboanga Sibugay is known as the oyster capital of the Philippines and the main supplier of oysters in the Asia Pacific region. The festival includes an event called the Talaba Longest Grill, where thousands of kilos of oysters are grilled on a kilometer-long grill station. The province holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest oyster grill.

The name of the festival comes from the name of the river Sibuguey, from which the name of the province is also derived. Sibug means to move forward and sibugay means a place where rivers meet. The festival celebrates the unity and progress of the province and its people.
