St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Church
St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Church is a name that refers to several Catholic churches in the Philippines that are dedicated to Saint Vincent Ferrer, a 14th-century Dominican friar and preacher who is known as the patron saint of builders, plumbers, and construction workers. One of the churches that bear this name is the San Vicente Ferrer Church in Dupax del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya. This church was established by Dominican missionaries in 1739 and has stood for more than 400 years. It also houses the saint's holy relic, enshrined and protected at the foot of his statue at the main retablo.
The San Vicente Ferrer Church in Dupax del Sur is one of the biggest and oldest unreinforced brick churches from the 18th century in the Cagayan Valley. The church has all the requisites of an Old Spanish brick church like wooden altar, columns and lattices and a museum which houses centuries old church artifacts. Other well-preserved Spanish monuments include a Spanish Flagpole and Dampol Bridge - an unreinforced bridge made of brick.
The San Vicente Ferrer Church in Dupax del Sur is also rich in history and culture, as it was once a trading post for the Japanese, who were allied with the native Ibanag people in the 16th century. It was also the site of the 1582 Cagayan battles, which were fought between Spanish soldiers and Japanese ronin (masterless samurai).
The San Vicente Ferrer Church in Dupax del Sur is a popular destination for locals and tourists who want to experience the faith and heritage of Nueva Vizcaya. The church hosts various events and activities throughout the year, such as masses, processions, fiestas, and cultural shows.
